WORN OUT LEE AUTO PRIMER TOOL

I seemed to have primed thousands of cases with this tool and now it has worn to the point I couldn't get primers to fully seat. The handle went all the way to tool body, but the primer arm just wasn't going up far enough. I did a temporary fix by taking a spent primer missing its anvil and flattening it out, taping it to bottom of plunger to shim up some more stroke. It worked. What to do now? Buy new tool or would new connecting rod work it back up to snuff? Or just continue with the fix?

    lee might fix it check out their web site and see if life time warrenty??

    As cheap as they are, I would buy another. As a quick fix, I would build up the end of the rod with J-B weld.

    check their web site. They do sell repair parts as I have purchased them for mine.

    For an easy fix I'd put the plunger in a drill press or lathe, drill a small hole into it, tap it, and thread an extender piece on. A short sheet metal screw for instance. You could also probably braze or solder it on.

    I've heard of these wearing out. A buddy of mine has worn out 2. I must be lucky- I've reloaded over 30,000 cases on mine and it is still tight as when new.

    Just buy a new connectingrod from lee and install it, your pronlems will all be fixed. seems to me thelast one i bought from lee was about $4 including shipping. New conrods are made of much better metal than the older ones.

    There is a pretty good chance they'd replace/fix this instantly for you at minimal or zero charge.

    I think Lee will replace it for half price even if they don't warranty it.

    you should keep the pivot points lightly greased

    Thank You ALL. I always did keep the pivot points lubed. Just like my M-1's! I'll contact Lee and see what's up. My buddy wore his out and went back to the primer arm/press route. I bought this tool to get away from all those extra movements to handle each & every primer, put cartridge case in shell holder, bring up ram, slide arm into ram under shell holder etc. etc. Using this tool made priming enjoyable.

    Those tools are a consumeable. Lee will probably replace it. I chalk it up to the end of their life and replace them.
