    I was wondering if anyone knew a left handed saftey lever is avalible for the M1 Carbine or if its possible for the existing lever to be fliped around so it can be better opperated by a left-handed shooter.

    Wont assign a value to it but get yourself some gi mags and get rid of those junk aftermarket ones [:D]. Great buy for the money!

    yea the mags are junk, gun fires great, nice shooter.i might hang on to this one.

    Whatever the manufacturer, have to figure any real GI M1 Carbine that goes "bang" is worth at least $450.00 - yes? Check the top of the barrel behind the front sight and the manufacturer's name should be on there. Inland made the most carbines.

    Check under the rear sight (above the SerNo) to find out who originally made the gun.

    Yes. It's worth "something". Refer to prior posts if you need a dollar amount.

    lol sorry guys, i kinda fell in love with this gun the other day when i went out an shot it, muzzle is in good condition, it says "underwood" on the tip. gun fires so smooth, i shot about 50 rounds without a flaw.

    Looks good to me but the stock finish bothers me and I'd sand, fill and refinish or do whatever it takes to improve that porous, beat look.
    Believe it, that if you presented that gun for inspection in the Army you'd be in deep doo-doo for the stock appearance.
    I loved the carbine in the service and did my best to wear out at least a few M-2s.
    They didn't wear out.

    Two of my carbines have that 'beat' look, and I wouldn't consider touching the finish. If there are any cartouches visible on the stock or inside the hand-guard, do not sand and refinish, do not touch, just enjoy.

    $ 150.00 for an M1 that shoots is a good price any day, any way. Not being critical, but a friend may consider throwing a friend another $ 150.00 or so.

    thanks for the info guys, i actually just plan to keep it as is, i think its got character. i did though order a strap and oiler and G.I mags. what kind of ammo do you guys recommend? ive been using Magtech 110gr. 30 carbine.
