I am thinking about buying a Ruger Mini 14 223 , is there any thing I should be looking for in this gun before I buy?

Will the Ruger Mini 14 in .223 chamber and shoot 5.56 military? Or is there a Mini chambered for the 5.56?

Tell you what, if you don't want the remington, tell em to ship it to me. I read some of those 'horrible' reviews and I call
I put one through hell and it came out swinging. Now I have two of them of the exact model your refering to. My advice is to pass on the mini14 and grab the remington at that price.
As for the mini, get a stainless, other than that there is nothing special to be looking for.0 -

My experience with Wal-Mart is that they don't have a good selection, don't have knowledgeable (usually) people in the Sporting Goods sections, but they do have reasonable prices on the stuff they carry. If you are set on the Mini-14, the price is decent.
I have seen several here selling used with extra mags and other extras for about the same price though. Sure you want a new one?0 -
The Ruger should be backed by the company warranty even though it was sold by wally-world. I have had no problems with mine, other than losing a stock screw a few years ago. (easy fix thru numrich). If you buy the mini 14, I recommend the 20 round clips that are factory and stay away from the aftermarket Cr@p. 0 -
The Wal Mart Mini 14 price is in the ball park....and although the Remington price is very fair, you may want to re-think the 300 Win mag caliber. If you live and intend to hunt exclusively east of the Mississippi River, you really don't need the excessive recoil and huge expense of the ammo that goes along with using a 300 Win mag. 0 -
I own a .270 now and have always used and loved the caliber, i know i dont need the .300 win mag and the more i think about it along with the price of ammo, i may be passing this deal up, and just looking to add a mini 14 to my gun safe. 0 -
If you are going to get a Mini 14, please consider a SS Ranch Mini 14...SS is a little more rust resistant and the Ranch version makes the scoped option much easier. 0 -
The Mini-14 is what it is. It is a reliable rifle that will go bang when you want it to. It is not as accurate as some, but more than the other's. I would say the same thing as most of the others, go with stainless for a little extra money.
As for the Remington, the 710, 715, 770 series are what they are. For the guy(or gal), who is going to shoot them during hunting season, and put them in the safe untill next year, they will suit the purpose. They are not the most accuracy inherent desisn, but will get the job done. I personally would pass on it in the better choice of a Stevens 200, or that Marlin XR7 I believe is the model, for a cost effective "beater" rifle.
