SMLE No 4 Mk II

I just picked up a like new SMLE No 4 MkII and want the option of using a scope on a "no d & t" mount. I've seen most of what's offered and am not impressed with what I've seen, except for the CadTech - which is of course out of stock at Brownells. I've backordered, does anyone have suggestions for a base in the meantime or instead of the CadTech?

I don't mind removing the sight or ejector screw, but I'd like the mount to look like it belongs, sit fairly low and not rely on pressure fit or a set screw turned into a recess in the receiver.

    I've had good luck with the S&K mount. It looks good and is very solid, IMO.

    X2 on the SK mount. I have one on my #4 and the only thing i did to make it better was use a thin piece of brass shim stock to make the wedge grab tighter. The mount will NOT move around or damage the gun in any way.

    Can you give me more info on the wedge & shim? Reason I ask is that I have their similar mount on an SMLE Mk III and then damn thing won't stay put. Are you saying there's a nut that is drawn tight from the top against the stripper clip charger bridge on the No 4?

    The No. 4 mount is much better than the one for the MKIII. It does have a contoured nut that fits under the bridge as you described. I believe I bought mine from J&G Sales for about $40 a few years ago. S&K has a web site and list the base for about $60.

    Thanks for the photo - that lug is the part that caused me problems on the MkIII.

    I have had two No. 4's with this mount. I never had a problem with either one. The one in the picture has had about 500 rounds fired through it and the mount is still tight.

    Yes that is the mount i have. The little brass shim i used is because the wedge seemed to pull up to far and was not tight enough for my liking.
