Value of a Low Serial # Winchester Model 12

I am going to be taking possession of my great-grandfather's Model 12. It's serial # is 218216, and was manufactured in 1919. It is in above average condition (after years of use, the original leather shoulder pad just recently came off). It is a 12 gauge, with a longer than average barrel, ribbed pump action. It is a duck gun(as opposed to a skeet model, etc) and I was wondering what sort of value could be assigned to it.

I am writing a memoir about my family and our relationship to guns, and this is the next piece in the puzzle. Can anyone help with an approximate value?

  Hello evjustin,
  Condition and features will determine value. Pictures would be helpful; "above average" condition does not really give us a good enough idea of the actual condition. A barrel length of longer than 30" could add a premium. 30" field guns with a plain barrel (no rib) with full choke were the most common configuration, and the most difficult to get a good price for. Calling it "Duck Gun" would be a misnomer; as Winchester sold a model as the "Heavy Duck Gun", but it was not introduced until 1935, circa serial number 673,995.
