Buck Mark Unlimited Silhouette Match
I have recently ran across a BM Unlimited Silhouette Match/14" barrel. The gun is in at least 98% condition and comes with all of the paperwork/packaging, the wood looks aged but the gun only has one small mark on the front of the barrel, beautiful gun and I want to use it for Silhouette shooting, which I have gone nuts over this year, I have an Anschutz Exemplar, and several Contenders,and the problem I have with both of these guns while lying down is re-loading, it breaks my concentration. But I have fell in love with this Buck Mark and was wondering if it will shoot as accurately as the Anschutz or the Super 14 Contender, 22LR? In the Blue Book at 98% the value is listed at $330, but I suspect it is worth more than that; the gun is AT LEAST 98%

Hello I don't shoot Silhouette matches but I do a lot of testing of pistols for Bulls-Eye pistol matches. These targets have a 1&1/2 inch X ring at 50 yards. I have found that the buckmark is a good but not great pistol when it comes to grouping in a Ransom rest. One thing for sure no matter what pistol you shoot you need to find what Brand of ammo and what "lot number" of said ammo shoots the best in each pistol you own. A good place to buy Match Ammo is Champions Choice www.champchoice.com and also Champions shooters supply they have many different brands of FRESH match ammo. 0 -
like perry said, these are very good (not great) pistols. they are a simplified high standard design and generaly shoot very well. they are competative at silhouette shooting and can 'clean the rams' if you do your part. Find the ammo yours likes and have at it. 0 -
I want to buy the pistol, and probably will, just a little concerned about the price. In the Blue Book @98% for the Browning Buck Mark Unlimited Silhouette (Match) 14" barrel, the price is $330.00, (100% is 425). He started out at 499, dropped it to 450, which seems like a "reasonable price" for such a beautiful, well cared for firearm,(I haven't made him a cash counteroffer) but I also don't want to be upside down in it? And I found out when I bought my Anschutz Exemplar that you can't always go by the book, even though I got a great deal on mine, I have seen them sell for double what the BB list's on Gun Broker. Any idea's on what this gun is worth? 0 -

I think the $330 price is too low. The $499 price is maybe too high. The base model of the buckmark series started at $250 and is now retailing for $299 (you might have to include shipping). The upgraded models I've seen all run for over $400 and some as high as $600. I would look at all the Buckmarks you can find. See what they have vs. what they cost and determine if $400-something is what you would pay for it. You may or may not be upside down in it after you buy it. But not by much. The value you get from a good shooting gun is tremendous. I have the Camper model(which is one up from the basic model) and it is very accurate. I can shoot 2" groups @ 50 yds with it. I'm sure the better models with better sights can do better.
I don't think you would be over if you paid $450 for it and it shot well.

I just looked over on the auction side and found three. One, close (3 days) with a reserve, is over $450 The two others are around the $300 mark with 8-9 days out. If you want, bid on them and see where they go. Or buy the one you know you can get.0 -
I think LF has a similar pistol on auction now... you may want to track it and see what it ends at.
As to ammo, repeat what was said above about trying a box of anything you can get your hands on and then buying as much of that lot # as you can.0 -
I'm not sure about the newer Buck Mark's but the older ones had interchangeable barrels. Bought a standard model in the mid 90's. Awhile later I order a fluted 9" target barrel directly from Browning. It just replaced the original standard barrel without any fitting problems.
If this is still the case all your going to be paying for is the barrel, as the receiver/frame mechanism is the standard Buck Mark.
I wouldn't be buying it unless this guy lets you test fire it. Since you need it for this particular type of Silhouette target work. I doubt very seriously though, unless your extremely lucky that it would even come close to being more accurate then a Anschutz or Contender.0 -

The high bid on it is $495.00, reserve not met, but it does have a Tasco Pro Point red dot scope, which is about $65.00-$120 on SWFA.COM. AS far as test shooting it is at a gun shop and I don't think he is set up for that. Maybe I'll just wait and see what the above listed gun goes for. Thanks for all your input! JD0 -
The one LF is selling is a 10" and not the 14". She starts all her auctions at $0.01 so it is a true auction.

Turns out the dealer who "had" this gun sold it new, and he said the guy he sold it to hardly ever shot it and it shows, when I said it was 98%+, I wasn't kidding, the only word I can think of to describe it is "Imacculate". I couldn't stand it so I just went ahead and bought it. It came with everything that it came with new, the owner's registration card hasn't even been filled out, it also came with a soft case with "Browning" on the side. Can't wait to shoot it! He wouldn't come down any more on the price, but I am satisfied with my purchase, and when it comes right down to it, that's what really matters. Thanks for all the advice! 0 -
