Hello IMHO buying a group of guns that you know very little about what to LOOK for is full of pitfalls. UNLESS you can go take bunches of close-up in focus pictures and do a bunch of research on each and every item. Basic rules of what to avoid are #1 REBLUED guns #2 guns that have been modified buy people with unknown skill level in gunsmithing. #3 cheap poorly made brands no matter what the selling price & #4 guns that have no parts available if they are broken. With that said many people have spent years in the school of hard knocks learning how to make good deals on the purchase of used fire-arms and we still make mistakes from time to time. Good Luck.

ladyhunter, do you know how to recognize a re-blue, an amateur hack job on a gun, dinged screw heads scratches and surface mars due to incompetence iron sights are sometimes give aways due to lack of knowledge on how to adjust them and cheaply made guns from foreign sources ?

i suspect the man has some pretty decent guns, go look at them make a list of what he has, if he will allow you photograph them post the photos here with last three S/N covered, if some only have a three digit S/N you just might have a real keeper if you are into collecting.

On the winchestester 30-30's, you are looking for guns in good cond. with a serial no. before 2,599,000.....if they are not in good cond. dont pay alot for them. American made double barrels can be very good especially in small calibers (everyone had a 12 ga.)!

Make a list of all the firearms in question make/model/caliber/SerNo. Post it here.

By doing that, we'll be able to save you a lot of time by having you concentrate on the ones that "ring the bell", that is, worth the time and effort to continue with the pursuit. Best, Joe
