Foam ...
I've got several briefcases that I want to convert to handgun cases. Does anyone know where to obtain foam (preferably black) that I can use inside these cases to secure the firearms and accessories? I would like a stronger type foam that's better than foam like eggcrate foam.
My appreciation for your help is extended in advance. Thanks

or buy a foam pad for camping and cut it to fit.0 -
I went through the same thing. I got a couple of pelican cases and needed to convert them. Go to foambymail.com they have exactly what you are looking for. 0 -
Back isle of academy sporting goods store has it here, maybe try there if there's one. Maybe check and see if there are any industrial supply chains local who might stock or be able to order it bulk n cheap. 0 -
I have seen a friend take a couple of those briefcases they use for tools, the aluminum kind, and clean out the inside and fill it with the expanding foam that comes in a can. He used a velvet type of material to contain it on top and wooden blocks to block out the area for the gun, the tools, ammo, etc.
It dries hard yet has some give to it.
Caution, it is an extremely sticky stuff that is difficult to get off the un intended item.

Any old "Foam" is NOT what you want. "Foam" is a wide swath of plastics, some of which will react with oils and deteriorate in contact with your gun, or even discolor or adhere to your gun
You want a "closed cell" foam called polyethylene. It takes centuries to break down, will not react with your gun or the oils on it, and will not mar your weapon.0
