mossberg shotgun question

Is there any difference in the barrels for the model 5500 and the 5500 MKII? Are the barrels interchangable?

    Yes, they use the same forends and stocks.
    The 88 was designed this way on purpose.

    OK, I'm wrong.

    I thought all the hardware was interchangeable by design, but I just checked and no.

    Even though the barrels, chokes, stocks and most of the internal parts will interchange, the forend isn't one of them. The Maverick uses a modified one piece molded forend to reduce production costs, so that bit isn't interchangeable.

    Apparently it actually *is* possible to swap out the entire one piece Maverick action tube for a Mossberg one, and then at that point you can use the Mossberg forend, though this may be more trouble than its worth.

    I've seen forarm kits for the 500 that said they will not fit the mav 88.
