Arisaka value

can someone give me and est. on the value of this gun? its a model 38 it does NOT have the chrysanthemum on it. it was made by Koishikawa Arsenal (Tokyo) and is in serial # range 893,xxx

    Well, the world of Arisaka values is a fickle thing. Two very nice and nearly identical rifles side by side can have vastly different values depending on certain criteria. Will need more info.
    1st. The stock on yours appears to me to be possibly refinished. Originality is EVERYTHING in Arisaka values. Can you verify?
    2nd: Do all numbers match? Should be some numbers on bottom bolt handle. Possible other bolt parts.
    Should match last 3 of serial on receiver.
    The ground MUM is a detractor from value, but not as much as mismatched numbers or non-originality.
    Could be the difference in a gun worth a 2 to 3 hundred as a colectible. Or a gun mainly valueable for it's individual parts.
    Whichever it is, if you sell online, be sure to describe it honestly. Because a collector WILL spot the differences. And you'll have a very PO'd buyer to deal with.

    ok. the numbers on the bolt do NOT match the numbers on the receiver or the barrel clamp at the muzzle. and i would say the stock HAS been refinished. based on the info you have already given me. it sounds as if this is no million dollar prize! :( but still an estimation on value would still be nice!

    I used to collect Arisaka's. Got out of it about 6-7 years ago. At that time your rifle might have been worth $125.
    Generally ground Mum, mismatched numbers, and altered rifles are worth most parted out. With the stock & hardware being the most valueable due to people wanting restore guns sporterized before WW-2 arms became collectible. But the refinish again will hurt value there.
    It's been awhile since I priced Arisaka's. And would advise checking the auctions here to see what the going rate on similar rifles is. Or parts thereof.
    I'm fairly certain you could likely get more out of it if you parted it out. But that's much more of a headache than selling the complete rifle. And in a sense does destroy a piece of history. I'd probably put up for a penny auction and let the market dictate the price.

    I feel the market for the Jap guns has taken a downturn in prices.

    I bought this gun only a handful of weeks ago at the 127 yardsale.{800 miles of yards sales in one 5 day weekend}. I paid $110 for it and could have got more at similar prices. Collectors guns are fickle.

    I wouldn't count garage sale prices as the norm.

    No, yard sale prices are not a good indicator of value. But when you see 6 to 10 of the same gun and not one selling for over $160 in 500 miles, thru four different states, That tells you some thing. There were also loads of 9mm autos. Prices on them were higher than I would even dream. Like a everyday used S&W 39 for $550 !!!Bob

    Would depend on where you sell. On internet you must figure in shipping/FFL receiver costs. Which buyer pays. If you ask value + extra's, it's a hard sell.
    If sold locally, you could try $200. But will be trying in a much smaller market. IMO as stated before, I'd sell at GB auction, set reserve low and let market do it's thing.
    But my opinion of value is $150'ish.

    Thanks, everyone has been a great help! ill try about $175 on another forum or trade for a climber.. maybe ill get lucky!
