Well first off it would depend on who made it.
If it is a Springfield call their customer service and they will tell you plus what version it was when it left the factory.0 -
Who made the gun? What is the name stamped on the heel of the receiver? 0 -
about 87/88..does it have GI barrel, trigger group,op rod..this serial should be in the we have lots of GI parts period...i have a 29000 made 1984 0 -
87/88 sounds close. I was in military college and my father bought it because that's what I carried. Finally gave it to me today. It's Springfield Armory and fully how the top of the receiver says M1A. I have original Springfield box cleaning rod, etc. Beautiful wood, college rifle was all fiberglass. Looks all GI. Thanks for info, I'll check your site and hold onto this beautiful addition to my collection. 0 -
Did springfield ever take M1 recievers and mofify them into M14's? 0 -
No, the cost would be prohibitive. Besides, there are still thousands of M14's in inventory.

all springfield M1a recivers were made from castings and then finished machined,,the original M14 were forged 0 -
Springfield Armory did use their receiver, install GI parts on them and sell them.
