Some Type of Weapons Sight?
This came from an estate of a Korean war veteran. Seems to be some sort of weapon sight. Has very fine crosshairs and good glass. Anybody know what it is?

Maybe you can find someone who reads/speaks Japanese to read the markings above the model number (which I presume are in Japanese. . .though I can't really say for sure).0 -

The writing on this is Kanji Japanese. Coupled with the english, it was likely made in Japan for S. Korea. My wife reads the langauge, when she gets home tomorrow, I'll have her interprete it.
I only know enough to recognize the script.0 -
Further info: can't say about the color scheme on Japanese equipment, but it sure has the paint-job of the Chicom equipment I've stumbled onto while over 'there'. Best, Joe 0 -

Thanks for the offer beantownshootah[:D] Glass in it is very good. Kinda heavy for a range spotting scope but that's probably where it will wind up. 0 -
Getting a little closer to figuring out what this thing is. Got a lead from munrod over at gunboards.com

FWIW, it's Japanese. The mark and "TOKO" represent Tokyo Kogaku Kikai K.K. (later Tokyo Optical). I believe the Kanji would translate to "Serial Number".

Thanks for the reply munrod. With the info you supplied I was able to find this:
Tokyo Optical Co., Ltd. (English name) otherwise known as Tokyo Kogaku Kikai K.K. (Japanese name) was established in September of 1932.
In 1933 Tokyo Optical began producing camera lenses. As with the German lens makers, they gave their lenses unique names--the State Anastigmat, the Simlar, the Toko and finally the Topcor.
They made a lot aerial and fixed reconnaissance cameras. Haven't found any information about artillery type equipment yet but I'm still looking. Thanks again for the reply!! You put me on the right path.0 -

OK, if the number of "1061" is the serial number, you might figure that whatever this thing is, it may have been manufactured in relatively limited quantities.0 -

FWIW
It is in fact post WWII japanese manufacture.
It's simply stating the serial number and screw size.
my sister in law's husband (member of JMSDF) believes it's an old arial spotting scope and thinks he's seen one back in the day.
Might suggest looking into that vein.0
