1892 button magazine
Hello all. just purchased my 1st 1892 and not real famalier with them.its serial #is 2745 and has a button magazine,round barrel.in .32wcf. my question is was the button mag a special order? i want to letter it with cody but was just wondering in the mean time.will try to post a few pics in the mean time hope they work. oh by the way gun shoots great. thanks in advance kevin

If it truly is a Model 92, then is a special order gun and a very early one to boot. However, are you sure you don't actually have a Model 53? The M53 was essentially a continuation of the M92 made from 1924 - 1932 and the short magazine was standard as was a shotgun style butt. The M53 was serial numbered in its own range with less than 25,000 made so low numbers are much more common. The low production total makes the M53 quite collectible. Some of the early M53s had M92 marked barrels and/or M92 marked receivers.
The Model 65 was another continuation of the M92 but most of those (but not all) were serial numbered in the M92 series so they have high SNs. They also had standard short magazines. Most had shotgun butts with uncapped pistol grips.0 -

Yes it's a 1892, with that ser# it's an early gun, but the bad news it has a late barrel from the 20s. A lot or black powder guns have had the barrels replaced.

kevin, this is the 11th post and the thread will lock shortly after 10 posts have been made. In order to prevent it from being locked I recommend you look at each of your posts where the picture failed to show and you will see a trash can Icon. Click on the trash can and it will allow you to remove the post. Do that for each post you want to remove and it will reduce the post count on this thread and keep it alive. You can also edit your original post and add to it instead of adding new posts. If the thread is locked, you can start a new thread and reference this one.
As glabray suggests, what you may have, even with the marking in the photo, is an early Model 53 with a Model 92 barrel. How is the tang marked? Is it marked WINCHESTER and below it TRADE MARK and below it MADE IN U.S.A. or does it have the Model 1892 marking?0
