Just picked up a Beretta pistol labeled
PIETRO BERETTA-Gardone V.T.-Cal9Corto
made in Italy
I was told that it was a 380 but it doesn't say 380 anywhere on the gun. The Cal 9 made me wonder.
any help out there?

my uncle left me a Beretta model 1935 32acp. The slide reads
P. BERETTA 7.65 cal BREVETTATA
GARDONCE V.T. 194CXVIII
#BEGINS 452xxx BELOW THE HAMMER IS AN EAGLE OR FALCON BELOW A CROWN

You have a Italian military pistol, ( Air Force? ) made in 1940. Don't mean to be rude but it's best if you could post quality photos for a better evaluation.
You also might utilize the net, Berettas are very popular handguns with much information available. Try GOOGLEing "Beretta Pistols" and/or "Beretta Forum" all the information your looking for will come up by just reading and clicking on the links.0 -

If it's spelled either of the 2 ways you posted, the gun may be a knock-off. Another reason why it's really important for you to post photos.
A real Beretta will be marked "Gardone VT"; Gardone is the city in Brescia in Val Trompia (VT) where there are a number of firearms manufacturers.

Your'e right it could be I was wrong about the V.T. It is Gardonce VT 194CXVIII is the sequence # and the serial starts 452 It came with a leg strap and brown holster and shoots great. Looks real to me. I have no photo's at this time. He was issued the item in 1942 but looks to be 95-98%.Do you think my uncle would have been issued a knock-off on an Italian airfield as his side arm for B27 bombing runs? It also has PB on the grip. thanks for all the help 0 -

It's not clear from your post your uncles status? Was he in the Italian Air Force? If he was a G.I it was never issued to him, he bought it on the local economy. 1944, ( after the allied invasion and occupation of Southern Italy ) would be a much more likely date of his acquisition and use of the Beretta. The only foreign Air Force flying from the Italian airfields in 1942 were the krauts.0 -
No sir. Uncle is dead and perhaps he traded for it. All I know is he carried it as a side arm and was in USAF. I appreciate your helping me and the local gun shop agreed with you first response. Did the USAF ever bomb on Italian soil during its occupation. I think they did. Didn't some guy named Mussolini side with the enemy until Italy was liberated? 0 -
The US Air Force was established September 18, 1947. If your uncle saw service during WW2, he would have been a member of the Army Air Corps at that time. And, they certainly did provide air support for the Allies during the Italian Invasion in 1943.
