Collector of Curios and Relics certificate

Hello,
How do I check these certificates? The ATF website doesn't confirm them. I've recieved one from a customer and don't I have to verify it somehow?
Also, the customer wants me to ship it somewhere other than the address that is on the C and R, he gave me his work address.

    I don't believe you can verify it. I would demand that he provide a copy of his govt issued identification and SHIP ONLY TO THE ADDRESS ON THE LICENSE. If he is not attempting fraudulent use of a C & R license he should be willing to provide the identification you need.

    I would be very wary of any request like that. As the C & R licenses are not as easily verified, as the 01 licenses used by firearms dealers. You should be very cautious, specially if your a 01 dealer.

    It to easy nowadays to cook up phoney/doctored documents on a computer. Take the previous posters advice.

    C&R FFLs are not on the BATFE automated EZ-Check site because a C&R holder is extremely likely to have his home as his licensed premises and that kind of info is not good to have out on the web. I have been told that it is possible to call the BATFE Licensing Center in Atlanta and have them verify the FFL over the phone (most likely they will call you back). Those of us who hold a Type 01 FFL (dealers) can have firearms shipped to any location inside our home state, we do not have to be shipped to our licensed premises address and could have them sent to a warehouse across town or in a neighboring city. A C&R FFL holder must have his guns shipped to his licensed premises.

    You can verify a C&R license by calling the ATF licensing center toll-free at 1-866-662-2750.

    Do NOT ship to any address other than the one on the license as it could be stolen or someone else's C&R that he's using.

    Very true, Mark. Item below is a personal gripe, (regarding 01 FFL's) and is in no way refuting the statement above. Now..

    Let's say I "find" a counterfeit FFL certificate. Number on top is legitimate, name of business is legitimate, address also legitimate. but I want it sent to [XYZ] address, not the address on the form. Will the carrier (UPS/FEDEX/USPS) catch the anomaly? All they will notice is a destination zipcode..and will ship it. That's my gripe.

    Now, at my end I always advise the buyer (or seller) that I will be checking his FFL bona-fides through the E-Z check system, and will refuse to send my remittance/paperwork/firearm to any other address except that which appears on the ATF E-Z check website. His alternate address (warehouse) is not the point of retail sale. The address on the FFL certificate is the physical location of the gunshop, and where retail sales are to transpire.

    I do [above] prior to bidding. Perhaps I'll get a refusal, but haven't yet. Time will tell. Sorry for the long read, but "kensguns" may find the above interesting. Best, Joe

    So far as the regulations are concerned this is not correct. The licensed premises address is the physical location where a dealers records are to be maintained and made available for inspection by the BATFE. Not a single firearm need ever be sold there. The operating hours during which a dealer is supposed to be open for business means only that a living breathing human being is supposed to be at the licensed premises during those hours along with the A&D book for purposes of inspection. Not a single retail sale need take place and no living human need ever set foot inside a licensed premises. In many rural areas there is no actual mail delivery by carrier and a person must pick up their mail at the post office. In these cases sending a gun to the physical address is impossible and those dealers in this situation are usually quite clear about this in order to ensure that they get their guns! Anyone can set their own shipping rules but the regulations don't mandate a stricter policy.

    My C&R shows both my physical and mailing addresses, but you should certainly not ship to another address, and he should not ask.

    I have a C & R - ship only to the address listed on the license. My bet is he wants you to ship to his workplace because that's where he is all day long, he doesn't want UPS leaning the rifle up against his front door leaving it alone all day long. This has happened to me more than once, do you have any idea what it's like to come home and see a package with "Carbine" stenciled across it leaning against your front door? Oiy!

    Anyway, there is a compromise. As the sender you can specify that it is held at a UPS shipping center, the fellow receiving it can make this request also. That way, even though it's addressed on the location on the C & R it will be held for him for pick up. That's my usual method and it ensures the package is secure until I pick up.

    I keep ATF phone numbers written in my C&R ledger for just this reason. This reminds me that I need to make a back-up copy of my ledger...
