L C Smith, Info wanted
Hello! I have my father's L C smith double in 12 gauge,and would like to get some info on it please. I believe he bought it in the 20s. It has two sets of barrels, both with ejectors. He told me it is an "Eagle grade". The serial number is 5760. It is further marked Patd Mar 83,July 13.86,Oct 5.86. The barrels are each marked with the same serial number 5760 and "Hunter Arms Co, Fulton, NY" and 3E.Barrels are 30" long. The sidelocks are engraved with 2 woodcocks in an oval one side and 2 quail?grouse? in an oval on the other. Double triggers. The original stock, which was highly figured burl, broke while he was shooting ducks on Wildfowl Bay. He sent it back to the factory and had a straight grained walnut stock fitted. I would like to know the approximate value and also where I could have the stock and two forends replaced with wood appropiate for the grade of the gun that this old retiree could afford. Any/all information that anyone can provide would be very much appreciated. This gun was my Dad's pride and joy that he used for many years.

Wow, what a treasure. Those stocks had a tendency to break at the grip. I dont think you're gonna get the correct wood replaced cheaply. With the right grade you are talking at least a couple grand. Can you post some photos of the gun? It would help on trying to arrive at a figure. Also I believe the Cody museum has records on your gun, it might be worth it to get it lettered. Do you have the original stock? 0 -
good quality up close in focus of all marks on the action of the shot gun with the barrels off This is called the "WATER TABLE " would let us tell FOR SURE what grade gun you have and also HELP with grading the condition as of now your question is sort of like I have a 3 bedroom brick house what is it worth. We need much more information. look at some of the ad's of shotguns for sale on this site and you will see how much more we can tell from pictures over just words.

Just put a Starting bid of $1000000.00 and run the auction one time and then come back here and using the edit button "PINCIL" add the item # of your shotgun to your original post the reason to edit instead of a new post is because per GUNBROKER rules for this forum your post will be locked after ten replies. . To post a photo, you have to use one of the photo hosting websites used in the sticky.
With the photo in view on the website, click and drag the web address box in your tool bar to highlite it, then right click for the drop down, and left click on copy.
Move to the experts post, and click on add image, and you will get the (img)(img) to come up. When this is up, put your curser between them like this (img)I(img), and right click to get the drop down, then left click on paste. Do that for each picture.

From your description, your gun is a 2E with 3E barrels. I suggest you post on the collectors site (lcsmith.org) for answers to your questions, as the archivist for the association is a frequent poster.
As to the broken stock, you may be able to avoid replacing the wood ( a very expensive project on a pre-13 gun). There are folks out there who can work wonders with a broken stock, and one of the members of the collectors association has an archive of stock "fixers" and will volunteer names.
