Getting started on an AK...

Hi everyone,

I'm looking into building an AK and I want to start by getting a solid receiver. Can anyone lend some brand suggestions or throw some links my way. Preferably stamped but I'll take whatever so long as it isn't ridiculously priced or really poor quality. I hear 1.6mm is better than standard 1mm, opinions? Thanks in advance.

  I've had really good luck with No Dak Spud receivers.

  As far as thickness, that really depends on what kit rifle you are going to build. The thicker than 1.0 receiver will make building a Romanian, Bulgarian, or Polish rifle alot more difficult as they specify a 1.0 receiver.

  I didn't use the tooling sold on AK builder's website however had I done it all again I would've bought some.
