who makes this rifle for S&W I've heard it is made by Stag

  S&W most likely assembles the rifle by themselves. Parts are probably made by several different manufactures. Major parts seem to be made by Continental Machine Tool, with is the parent company of Stag. There are only a few manufacturers in the AR market that actually make their own parts. There are only a few manufacturers of AR parts, with a few odd and end machine shops making parts.

  STAG made the early ones. Smith & Wesson claims to be making the current crop.
