Is 565.00 a good price for a Smith & Wesson 25-5 45 colt with Nickle finish 6" barrel in excellent condition with factory wood box and clening rod?

    I just purchased a S&W 25-5 in 45colt. It came with a couple of half moon clips. Is it safe to shoot 45acps in this gun?

    If there is enough clearance in the back of the cylinder for the moon clips, mabe [?] The 45acp. cyl. should be shorter. Make sure someone didn't have a 45acp.cyl. fitted the your gun. Try a 45 colt round in it to make sure. If they clear it would be like firing 38spl. in a 357mag. cyl. You would have clean out any deposits from in front so the 45colt will go in all the way. Look in the cyl. and you will see a shoulder in it where the 45acp. will not seat. This will catch lead or copper from the shorter rounds.

    It should not even be POSSIBLE to shoot .45 ACP in a 25-5 unless the cylinder has been altered to accept the thickness of the clips.

    If the cylinder will accept clipped .45 ACPs and close with normal effort, then it has been modified and will be safe to shoot.
    If not, then the clips were thrown in inadvertently or out of ignorance.

    Probably a gunsmith job. The M25-5 has a cylinder as long as a .44 Magnum's. A .45 ACP cylinder would have to be a rechambered .41 or .44, the M25-2's ACP/AR cylinder is too short.
    There was the M25-3 Commemorative which had both cylinders in .45 ACP length. The .45 Colt cylinder was just barely long enough for factory loads, no Keiths here.

    I have seen this particular S&W model with 2 cylinders; one for the 45 Long Colt and one for 45 ACP and moon clips. I don't know if this was offered by the factory or something someone put together. All of the parts were S&W. Shooting 45ACP in a N frame is a nice experience.[:)]

    Well, in terms of operating pressure, it ought to be, though I don't see how you would get the clipped .45ACP rounds to fit in a standard .45LC cylinder.

    If you really want a definitive answer, then take a picture of the side of the gun at the cylinder and breech face and post it. Without that information, everyone here is speculating as to what it can and cannot shoot safely.

    I took the time last night to try out the revolver. There is no way 45's in moon clips will work. You guys are right, the cyl. won't close. The gun does shoot very well using 45 colt ammo. I am very impressed with the accuracy! I guess the guy I bought it from accidently left the moon clips in the wooden box. thanks for the help.
