AMT/OMC "backup" opinions?

im looking at getting a small carry gun. i found an AMT/OMC "backup" .380 coming up at an auction. i was wondering if anyone has experience with these pistols.

    Do a search and you will see numerous opinions from people who have had them. Most seem to be negative and some have mentioned better alternatives.

    Had 2 of them over the years, neither was reliable. Don't buy one unless you can test fire it with all available magazines that comes with it, and with the personal protection ammo you intend to use in it. Be also advised the companies who made them, i.e. AMT/OMC have been out of business for many years.

    There are enough bad ones out there that I wouldn't take a chance on one I couldn't test out to make sure it worked.

    As a carry/personal protection gun, you need it to go bang when it is supposed to. Yes it is small in size, but they are very hefty. I would go with a Kel-tec, before I went with that. Actually, a 380 is not enough for a serious confrontation, but a gun in the pocket is better than the one left at home.

    I would look for a Kahr PM-45, or a Springfield XD.

    Here we go again!! I am one of those that believes the AMT .380 is the worse piece of JUNK that I have ever owned! You would be better off just throwing a handful of .380 rounds at the person.

    Go with a Kel-Tec or the new little Ruger. The AMT will disappoint you!

    It does not matter who makes it. By design it is an unreliable piece of junk. Even the High Standard company is not the High Standard of old. You buy something for protection and to carry, and NEED IT TO GO BANG! every time you want it to! There is much better out there.

    thanks for all the input. overall i think i will save my money and get something else. i want something small enough to carry in an ankle holster. my primary carry is a firestar plus 9mm. its too big to carry in an ankle holster. i would prefer to carry a 12 gauge but thats not practical. ill probly look into keltec. thanks again guys.
