On a Colt Revolver Officers Model .38 what differentiates a 1st issue, 2nd issue, and 3rd issue?

  If you can get your hands on a copy of the Blue Book they give a abbreviated explanation of the differences. You also might try GOOLEing, their is lots of stuff on-line regarding the older Colts, it's usually just a matter of patient digging till you come across the info your looking for.
