Best sight in for 223 Rem

What would be the best sight in for a 223 Rem using 60 gr bullets at or near 3000 fps. Was thinking 1 1/2 inches high at 100 yards?

    sounds good to me, that is how i have most all my 5.56mm NATO ammo set for, at 200 yds. they are nearly dead on point zero.

    There is no such thing as the "best" zero, since its going to depend a bit on what you want to do with your gun.

    If you are shooting static bullseyes, for example, you'd want to be zeroed at the distance of the bullseye.

    If you're hunting small game, you might want your zero in a little closer than 200 yards (depending on the distance you intend to shoot from).

    In general, without checking the ballistics charts, 1.5 - 2.0" high at 100 yards sounds about right for a "battlefield" type zero. That will basically put you "in the money" for most of the useful range of the gun.

    If I do use the 1 1/2 inch high at 100 yrd setting were will I be around 25 and 50 yards?

    You may wish to look at some of the online ballistics calculators. A good one is at hornady.com, but there are others. You can input weight, muzzle velocity, ballistic coefficient, zero, etc. and get most of the important trajectory stats.

    Well it kinda depends on velocity. based on 3200FPS/55grain fmjbt


    the trajectory is 1.5 inches above the bore at 100, At 200 yards the bullet is almost exactly back in like with the bore, at 300 its about 4 inches below boreline, at 400 it is about 30 inches below boreline.

    So if you zero an inch and a half high at 100 yards you are good out to 300yards.

    I like to use JBM Calculations for an online calculator. It's usually pretty close whatever I'm shooting.

    Something of note here is that I like to zero out as far as I can get a point blank hit on the "kill zone" meaning if I'm shooting PD's or gophers I use a 5" kill zone and for deer/elk a 10" kill zone.

    Using a 60 gr. V-max I have to zero 4.2" high at 100 to be on at 300. This takes me 5.3" high @ 150 and 5.1" high @ 200. I can shorten my point blank zero or I can know what ranges that I have to hold under. Of course the calculator is a guide. This gives you a great excuse to go out and test your loads at the ranges you hope to shoot.

    MPBR is the maximum range that you can aim directly at you target and hit it. A 55gr spire point 223 Rem. at 3240fps sighted 3.1" high 140yds will allow you to aim dead on out to 284yds. It will hit 2.8" high at 100yds and 2.0" high at 200yds
    you could do the same with a 60gr bullet and these figures would be close.
