Colt Huntsman and Browning Challenger II problems

I have a Colt Huntsman and Browning Challenger II both in .22 that both belonged to my dad. He bought them probably 25-30 years ago and fired countless rounds through them. They are cosmetically in excellent condition but jam more than they should. I thought about buying new mags first, but the ramps look worn to me. Would worn ramps cause jamming and can worn ramps be repaired?

    It would take ALOT of shooting to wear out the ramps....perhaps the recoil springs are weak or possibly a magazine issue? What exactly is it doing? Can you describe in detail what happens when you fire a round?

    They both need detailed cleaning is my guess a straight blow back 22 rimfire semi auto get a lot of gunk crud in the action and the bore and chamber needs to be cleaned also the magazines need to be cleaned . The "worn " ramps just look that way from crud build up. You need to take the slide off and clean every thing with a stiff tooth brush. then do the trouble shooting spring for some different brands of good ammo the cheap stuff have very soft bullets and can cause jams.

    Very unlikely any of the .22 bullets would cause appreciable wear on the ramps.

    More likely they need a very good cleaning, more then anything else. .22 ammo is really dirty stuff, the wax from the bullets and power residue has a tendency to really build up if not cleaned regularity.

    A number of older much fired guns that I have worked on in the past did need their recoil springs replaced. If this proves to be the problem, contact Wolff Gunsprings for replacements.

    I would try shooting some CCI Mini-Mag solids, IF YOU CAN GET YOUR HANDS ON SOME, It's my go-to ammo for function firing .22's. If it won't work with the Mini-Mags their is something definitely wrong with the pistols.
