My friend has a Schmelzer Arms Co., 12 ga., double barrel shotgun made in 1892. What is the estimated value of it?

    mikeglad: I can find NO information on your Shotgun in My Data Base...Is it possible you can post photos for us to try and pickout Proof Marks? Take photos of the Whole Gun and especially the Bottom of the Barrels....Give a complete and total discription....One question for You...Is there an Oval with the letters E over LG....Stamped on the Water Table?....Best...

    I suspect, based on the above information regarding the Schmelzer Arms Company Store that the gun itself is a trade brand made by Crescent or Stevens and marked Schmelzer Arms Co for their retail sale.

    Schmelzer's 1915 parts catalog lists parts for several hammer and hammerless doubles: American Gun Co, Davis, L. C. Smith, Stevens, Remington, Neumann Bros (Belgian), but no parts listed under their own name for any gun.

    The gun does have the oval with the letters E over LG stamped on it. It also has the word Expert after Schmelzer Arms Co. We are working on taking pictures and will send them as soon as we can. Thank you for you help.

    Probably made by Neumann Bros then. If there's a crown on top the oval it was made 1893 or later. If not, before then. Is it an outside hammers, or a hammerless gun?

    It does have the crown and it is stamped 1892. It is hammerless. I can get the front trigger to work but the back one won't. The butt is western style. It is choke 17. I am scared to shoot it. Any idea how much it would be worth if it was in good working condition?

    1892 is probably not a date then (might be Neumann's serial number).
    Could be made as late as early 1900s, especially since hammerless.
    Value will be as a wall hanger.
