H&R sxs 28ga
I recently came across this H&R SXS chambered in 28ga. I am going to keep it for my personal collection I believe, but I was curious if anyone had any input on it and/or had a idea of the value of it.

Does the checkering on the forearm seem correct to you? it seems to me that it is slightly different from the checkering on the pistol grip?

Thanks also for the info. A number of years ago a friend bought a 410 receiver only, same model. Would love to find tlhe rest of the pieces to put it together. 0 -
I have one each of the .44 cal. and 28 ga. The checkering on your 28 is virtually identical to that on both of mine. The side plate also appears to be identical. However, the forestock on both of mine are of the "splinter" type - thin and narrow and fit below the barrels. Your's appears to be more like a modified "beaver tail", although the checkering pattern is the same. Would you please share the serial number of your piece for research purposes, and also what you paid for it, if you don't mind. These pieces were individually hand assembled and the checkering was performed by hand - so there will be some variation from piece to piece. As Bill stated, these are "high end" H&R Collectibles. I purchased the .44 (s/n 607) in 3 pieces for $805 and had it reassembled by an expert smith. The through bolt that holds the side locks together was stripped and only required reweld and rethreading. I purchased the 28 ga (s/n 85) for $1085 in slightly better condition than yours. Both pieces were acquired approximately 9 years ago. The prices quoted in the Blue Book were derived from very few observations, including what I paid for my examples. I have only seen three others in the past 15 years, so some extrapolation was necessary.

That is sort of what I was hoping to hear. The serial number is #408. As far as what I paid for it....well, lets just say it would be a steal. 0
