1911A1 Mainspring Housing
I have a Colt 1911A1 45ACP in the 741,XXX serial number range which indicates it was made in 1941. My question is that the mainspring housing is straight (flat). I have done alot of research and am confused about the housing. All the references I have found tell me the mainspring housing for this year and model were checkerd and arched. Since the housing is on a frame from 1943 valid serial number is it correct? Thanks in advance.

They are very easy to exchange. I replaced the flat one on my 1911.

Thanks, That would be my next question. It sounds like all I need to do is find an arched MS housing. I wonder if it was issued with the straight housing? 0 -
Hello There are many parts that will interchange between a 1911 & a 1911A1 The mainspring housing being one of those . If your pistol has long trigger, short grip safety tang and the frame does not have a finger cut on the frame to the rear of the trigger guard then it should also have flat mainspring housing . If however it has short trigger ,long tang grip safety and DOES have finger cut behind the trigger guard in the frame then it should have ARCHED mainspring housing . Also your pistol is a transition model and could be blued or Parkerized It should have the same finish on both the slide and frame but the parts could be different finish and still correct as shipped. Look behind the firing pin stop and the slide may have the serial number of the frame part of the number on top of the firing pin hole and part beneath the hole if the serial numbers match [:D][^] if they are different [:(!][:(][V]. However it is very easy to find correct parts like mainspring housings. Your pistol could be correct with either wood or plastic grips. 0 -
