Baretta 92F Question
The finish on my 92 F is needing attention. I carry this gun often, I am currently about to buy a Dura Cote sytem from Brownells. Would this be the way to go or is there another product available you would recommend.

How much disassembly is required before painting? Things like safety, magazine and slide release ext. 0 -
I'm sure someone will be along to tell you how to make it work, but personally I've only used a home user product (Aluma-Hyde) on big, easy pieces, a.k.a. rifles.
There's too much work involved in getting it just right on all the wee bits of a handgun, and while I spoze you don't HAVE to do a tear down to the pins before you hose it, it would be a sloppy job. Like you don't HAVE to take off the the trim or do the jambs on a car paint job.
Plus a carry gun, being subject to holster wear, will have the high points shiny in short order. If it was me, I'd stick with a professional plating job from a reputable shop.0 -
Before I did anything, I would see if Beretta would be willing to refinish the gun at no cost. I mean, they advertise Bruniton as a heavy duty finish, supposedly able to hold up to a lot of wear. It won't cost anything to ask.
I agree with MrOrange, a professional plated finish would be your best bet if you want something that will hold up well. But, 2-way shipping will cost you $120-140 alone, plus the cost of the finish; consider whether or not you want to put that much money into an older gun.
Another option might be to sell your gun & buy a new 92FS with the Inox finish.

If you deside to do a Dura Cote your self, the gun has to be completely disassembled and should be bead blasted to remove any old finish so the Dura Cote will hold. Then make sure you clean out every nook and cranny and the firing pin hole real good. The spray coat will plug thing up if you aren't careful. 0
