Win M1912, year: 1913
Im trying to do some research on an old shotgun of my father's. it had not been touched in 40 years or more, till my brother and I pulled it out and took it to a gun smith a year ago. It passed inspection, and we have shot it fairly regularly over the past year, with no problems.
so far, i have found that it is a winchester model 1912, and a serial number comes back as being a 1913 manufacturing year. it has a small (less than 1") chip at the tow of the stock. it has no heat shield or bayonet lug (can one be added? cost?). the barel is marked "cyl".
is it worth it to keep it stored away for another few decades? will regular shooting and cleaning just destroy the gun or any value it still holds? does it even have any value? there's no rust, and it works fine. sometimes the first shell feeds from the tube fine, but the second will stick. probably just needs some more cleaning, huh?
the tube only seems to hold 2 shells... is that normal? is there a stopper inside that i can take out and allow it to hold more?

Yes it has value, and no you are not destroying it by shooting it. Just dont let it rust. The Cyl bore is rare on that gun. Can you post a photo of it? Does it have a place to mount a heat shield and a bayonet? Does it have a little flaming bomb stamped in the metal? how long is the barrel? We really need alot more details and some photos. Sounds like someone put a magazine plug in it, this is usually required for upland bird/duck hunting. It can be removed rather easily. 0
