hi again was wondering if are who knows how many 73's was made in .22cal. either long or short. auction coming up this weekend has one didn't know what the availibilty of these are thanks KEVIN

    Several sources indicate that about 19,500 1873s were made in either 22 short or 22 long. I'm not sure that the frequency that survivors turn up supports a number quite that large. About 100 of the earliest examples (1884) were takedown, the takedown being accomplished by driving out a pin that joined the barrel unit to the frame. This was a design that didn't work well and it was abandoned. Some examples will be found with the takedown frame but the pin is peened over so that it cannot be removed. This was done by the factory to use up the takedown frames.
