Mark XXII ftf

I have a Japanese built Weatherby Mk XXII (auto) that needs some work. I was wondering if anyone here has used any of the service providers the Weatherby site recommends and what you think. Your help is appreciated.It has too light primer strike. Thoroughly cleaned, firing pin replaced springs replaced or checked. It appears to me that the headspace is excessive with about .010" of case play when in battery. Used rifle that used to function so I don't know what has changed.

    I have had problems similar to this in the past. Mostly it was ammo related, with Remington and Winchester bulk boxes I bought at Wally World. Perhaps if you would try different brands of ammo.

    Or there is always the possibility that the extractor is causing the problem. The extractor has to be adjusted so that it doesn't prevent the rim from seating flush on the breech of the chamber.

    I would agree about the ammo. I have even had some that the extractor wouldn't latch onto because it was so thick. I have seen some of the remington so thin it would have excessive headspace, and not fire reliably.

    When in doubt, I get a box of CCI in the hundred round pack. I haven't had any trouble with that, and if it works on that, your rifle probably isn't broken.

    I would venture to go along the lines that rufe-snow says. I have had that problem with several semi auto 22LR rifles, when using Remington ammo especially. 22LR ammo is some of the dirtiest in the industry, and sometimes infiltrates into the inside of the bolt a crud build up that will take tiny tools and good solvent to clean. The specific area is in the frontal area between the front of the firing pin, firing pin hole, and behind the bolt face. You might also as rufe says, want to double check your extractor groove on the breechface of the barrel to make sure that is all cleaned out.

    I have never had to use a manufacturer service provider, other than for warranty, and that is precisely why I would not buy or sell a Mossberg out of my shop. So with that said, I would not be able to speak for the weatherby service centers. You might also want to run this topic by the good people over at www.rimfirecentral.com.

    I have had a pair of Mark XXII for years . a straight blowback 22 rimfire is one of the dirtiest firearms out there The trigger Hammer group can be removed from the receiver and must be done from time to time to really get clean also buildup of crud on the rear of barrel face and front of bolt needs to be cleaned or this build up will cause more head space. lastly the barrel is pinned into the aluminum receiver make sure the barrel is not loose.
