Tyler "T" grips vs. Colt raised grip ???

I've wondered about this for awhile and a thread on General Discussion brought it to the front of my brain, so I thought I'd get a definitive answer from you guys, who always have been able to answer everything I've asked about:

The Tyler grip has the effect of lowering one's hand from the centerline of the bore on Smith revolvers (and maybe others), while recent production Colt 1911s have a relief between the grip and the trigger guard, which RAISES one's hand toward the centerline of the bore.

Can anyone explain the effects and practical differences between the two ??

I've never used the Tyler, but I have recently acquired a like-new Model 60-2, as well as a 1911 and was just wondering...

Will y'all hep me out ??

    "T" grips help the S&W/Colt revolver. That's due to the shape of the handle. Much better "natural point".

    I've never seen a Tyler grip adaptor (actually they are 'fillers') for autos. Hope this helps.

    And, yes, get the "T" grips for the revolvers, but only if you have the standard, non oversize grips. Best, Joe

    Doug, can't speak for the autos (ref: post below). Sorry. Are you certain it is a "raise", or perhaps a larger triggerguard that bows downward?

    Getting back to revolvers, the operators hand remains at the same height in relation to the bore C/L when the "T" grip is installed. The function of the "T" grip is to allow more surface contact between revolver and hand, so therefore, greater control for followup shots..as well more natural point. Best again, Joe

    But why the notch in the Colt 1911 ??

    Is it better to have your grip closer to the centerline of the bore, or farther away ??

    Or, are the ergonomics of the two different style weapons so dissimilar that it is totally irrelevant ??

    On the 1911, the closer your hand is to the bore line, the better you can control the recoil.
    As joe said, the Tyler T grip also puts the hand up for a better grip like grips that fill in the front.
