Forehand Double Barrel and Colt 45

I have a 12 gauge double barrel with hammers, not Damascus steel. Gun says "Forehand Patent 1897 Westchester, Mass, model 99". The gun is approximately 60%. I have never heard of Forehand and cannot find anything about them in my gun book. Does anyone have any information at all regarding the value? A ballpark figure would be fine. I am also looking for the approximate value of the Colt 45, serial #C220732. It says "government model". My book says it was made in about l944, it is not blue or stainless steel, but it looks like dull silver. The gun is 85%. Any information is appreciated.

    your shotgun is either one of the last forhand arms co. double barrel manufactured before 1899 or one the Hopkins & Allen Forehand Models manufactured after february 1899. forehand arms co. was only in business as forehand arms for less than ten years 1890-1899). the company also operated as forehand & wadsworth between 1871 and 1889 H&A purchased forehand arms co. shortly after a fire destroyed the H&A factory in february 1899. H&A kept the forehand models in production until at least 1906 or so, when the forehand name was dropped. this double barrel shotgun should be treated as a black powder model and not fired with modern smokeless ammo.

    your shotgun was manufactured between 1897 and 1906 value any where between about $300+ down to $100 depending on condition.

    You already have an answer on your shot gun [:)]I will try to help you on the Colt 45 . If you send pictures up close in focus of all writing inspector marks etc . The ONLY factory finishes offered by colt when your pistol was made were BLUE and NICKLE However I have not seen any FACTORY NICKLE pistols made during this time frame. If the pictures are very good I may be able to advise you if I THINK it is factory or a refinish. If factory and you get a letter from Colt "NOT CHEAP" stating it is factory nickle then the value will be more then one that was shipped BLUED [:D][^]if a refinish then it will severely drop the value[V][V][:(!][:(]
