I've recently completed a auction with another California resident and we both want to make certain we handle the transaction correctly. I live in NorCal, the seller in SoCal so we'll need to ship the O/U shotgun to my FFL.
Question:
1. Can he ship directly to my FFL or does an in state transfer need to be handled FFL to FFL?

He can ship direct.
Assuming the seller is not an FFL, he can ship direct to your Type 01 FFL (dealer) so long as you have confirmed in advance that your FFL will accept a firearm from a nonlicensee and what information must be received.
A nonlicensee shipping a firearm to an FFL dealer in CA is the same as it is pretty much everywhere else.
If your FFL will not receive a firearm from a nonlicensee, the seller will need to ship it from an FFL and that FFL will have to comply with CA's CFLC requirement.

I don't want you to think that you are being ignored by the rest of us. The laws are so screwed up in Cali that most of us just have no idea what is what from day to day. In my state of Florida he could send it to you directly, but a Californian is going to have to help on this one. Welcome to the forum! 0
