High Standard plated magazine?
Over the years I've come across several High Standard magazines that were (tin? as in all silver, not blued at all) plated, anybody know the story on these?

Hello Mike I have a number of high standards and for the most part all the tin plated ones were the older pre model 102 guns . The Germans did the same treatment on some early Luger magazines . It does seem to keep them from rusting and blued magazines that scrape when you install and remove as a normal result of loading the pistol do seem to be more rust prone in the bare metal spots. 0 -
There Cadmium plated. It was something that H-S experimented with in the mid 50's time frame. Weren't successful, so they went back to the conventional blued mags. 0 -

The drawing change for the cadmium finish was Revision F dated 2/27/54 and the change back to blued finish was revision H dated 8/18/1959. The drawing revision date was not necessarily the date they incorporated the change in the shop.
This would include the 100 , 101 and early 102 series guns and teh early Dura-Matics.
The problem with the cadmuim palting was that after plating the shells were not rinsed sufficiently to remove the plating salts from between the inner and ouste shell. These salts attracted moisture and rust formed out of sight between the shells. Eventually some magazines had such a buildup of rest that it expanded the thickness of teh shell and closed down teh inside of the shell such that the cartridges were tight inside the magazine and the magazine was tight in the magazine well.0 -
There were nickel plated magazines for the "Survival Pak" model. I owned one for years and sold it here this past year. 0
