I came on a few days ago with questions about this Colt .44-40

As suggested, I took a few photos and posted them on Picasa [:D]

    Great looking pistol George Patton did not like pearl grips but yours look very good on . Your fine pistol Picture #3 shows the grip frame but not close enough to see if the serial number is the same as the one on the front of the trigger guard . I have no reason to believe it is not the same but that could make a BIG difference in Value . If you put up for sale on this GUNBROKER SITE please come back hear and give us the item number . Start at $1000.00 with no reserve IMHO.

    You have a pretty clean Single Action; but it appears to me that the trigger might have been replaced by a non-original trigger (too thick and the tip doesn't look right) and the hammer spring is broken.

    The grips just might be original to the gun, but I can't tell for sure, they may be old aftermarket replacements. I'd letter the gun and if it came with them the letter would probably reflect that since they would be a special order.

    You need to get a replacement spring, but unless you can find an original 1st Generation spring; most collectors would know it wasn't an original if they took the grips off.
