17 high standard 10/22 barrel
hello
i have found a 17 high standard 10/22 barrel. what does this actual shoot? or is it something that high standard came up with after the 17hm2 and 17hmr. would this be a canidate to use in the 10/22 or is it so different that no mods. are needed like on a 17hm2 conversion. by the way i have not located any 17 high standard ammo and from i have found out probably won't.

I believe that Aguila had a .22 LR necked down to .17 on the market for awhile. Never heard it refereed to as 17 H-S though?
Check with that outfit in Texas thats making the H-S knock offs. Maybe that was something that they were trying to market in competition to the 17hm2?0 -
There are a total of 3 seventeen caliber rimfire rounds one is based on the 22 MAG and the other two are based on the 22long rifle. one is a standard 22LR case 'I believe this is some times called the 22 H.S. the other is based on the 22 mini mag as loaded first by CCI and is just slightly longer and will NOT work in some match 22 LR chambers . maybe nononsence knows which is which. for sure I think I know but one cartridge has disappeared and that of course would not be a good buy. SHAW makes barrels for all of them and could tell you for sure. 0 -
Word was the H-S and Aguilla started off together, and then had a falling out over marketing. The .17 HS and .17 Aguilla are very similar, based on standard .22 LR case. 0 -
High Standard was playing around with a .177 a long time ago and more recently High Standard in Houston was aligned with Aguila in another .17 caliber exercise. The Connecticut exercise did not result in either pistol or ammunition that was comercially produced. THe Texas exercise did eventually yield both guns and ammunition but teh guns were on sale well before teh ammunition.

thanks for the info i did not know about the early one but had heard of the later one. maybe i should just acquire the barrel and put it inmy safe, there is always room for a barrel. 0 -
I have taken a similar .17 barrel for a 10/22 and retooled/rechambered it to .17 HM2 so as to fit a Stevens Favorite 1915 action, so it your don't go after this item, I might just have do it again for another Stevens I have! 0 -
The .17 H.S. (High Standard), has become one of my favorite small game calibers. I purchased the barrel several years ago and did a converson to a Ruger 10-22. Originally I had lots of problems with feeding and ejecting, but then I added the heavier bolt charging handle and that solved all of the problems. Ammo is available currently thru Natchez shooter supply, located in Chattanooga, Tn. Visit their web site to order. I have included some pics of the shell and my gun. Notice the longer shoulder on the shell on the right, it is a .17 Mach II. The .17 Aguila can be fired in a .17 Mach II barrel, (with good accuracy), but the .17 Mach II cannot be fired in the H.S. chamber.[img][/img]
