will the rifle barrels for the h & r s work on the model 88???

  I collect old H & R,My books show shotgun only.I have found that some barrels fit and some dont, it should be checked for head space and what pressures the gun was designed for by someone who knows what hes doing.tks hedge [:D]

  generally it is not a good idea to try to fit rifle barrels to reciever that were originally manufactured as shotguns. however those that were manufactured as combo's were built on rifle recievers and shotgun barrel can sometimes fit with out any fitting but not always. the new H&R 1871 will not touch any of the original production models manufactured before 1987. my opinion is never shotgun to rifle only rifle to rifle or rifle to shotgun.
