winchester 121 bolt removal

A friend of mine has a Winny 121 bolt action single shot rifle and he cant figure out how to remove the bolt. The usual actions (open bolt, press trigger forward or pull backward etc.) did not do the trick. He can find no bolt stop release on the gun. Anybody have any ideas? My rifle disassembly books do not list this model. Thanks to all in advance.
