1873 dust cover

Hi all i need to know if all 1873 1st model duct covers was the raised thumbprint style. i have 1st model ser.# 7199 i know the duct cover on it isn't original,but would like to make as oringinal as possible. mine just has serrations on top where the print would be.thanks in advance kevin

  All first model dust covers had the oval shaped, checkered, "thumb print" style dust cover. However, there were several variations. The earliest had the oval on a separate raised piece. Later, the oval was pressed into the cover. There were also variations in the checkering, some fine, some coarse. Even the length of the thumb print varied. Most were 5/8-inch long but some were 1/2-inch.
  
  If you can find ANY original first model dust cover in decent condition you will be doing well. There are some reproductions around but they aren't very well made in my opinion.

  thanks Glabray ive tried every where to locate one. find plently of 2nd and 3rd models. where or who has the repos might look better then the one i have on it? thanks kevin
