old revolver
My wife received an old .22 revolver with the inscriptions on the barrel made in Germany. On the butt of the gun it is stamped GM 2587 or GR 2587 also the barrel has thread for either an extension or a silencer of some sort any help identifying and estimating its value would be helpful please if someone knows something email me! All it says is AMERICAN REVOLVER COMPANY and is double action. It don't use a loading gate just a off set channel to slide the cartridges in as you turn the cylinder by hand. I believe it shoots the 38 S&W cartridge. How old is it and who sold it? Any info? 0 -

The revolver with the marking you describe is the either the Model 1879 or Model 1883 German military revolver(s), called by them the "Reichsrevolver". The letters in the oval are the manufacturers initials, or Trade Name. Here is a photo of a 1883, the 1879 has a longer barrel.

From your description I think you have an old revolver, possibly of WWI vintage and may be a black powder .44 caliber cartridge.
That being said, the S.& S.V.O.S. C.C. SUHL inside an oval was a trademark of Sauer & Sohn, V.C. Schilling, and C.G.Haenel of Suhl, Germany and was the trademark on Ordnance revolvers. VCS*C.G.H. SUHL inside an oval was V. Charles Shilling and C. G. Haenel of Suhl, ermany trademark on Ordnance revolvers. Schilling was a producer of Bergman pistols in Suhl, Germany. C G Haenel also did business as C G Haenel Schmeisser Waffen und Farradfabrik, 1840-1945.
A european arm should have numerous proof marks on the barrell, these proofs can often identify the arm, certainly the country of origin.
Good pics of the revolver, particularly closeups of any markings, are a minimum for identification and without id, value is a pure WAG.

Rufe got all the high points fine. It's a '79 most likely, caliber is German Ordnance 10.6mm but most folks shoot .44 Russian in them. Value on an average condition matching parts Consortium made Reichsrevolver is about $500-$700, but the regimentals can add some if they're rare.0 -
