Legal to buy/sell military M1911 45?
Is it legal to buy or sell a WW II M1911 marked, "United States Property?" If yes, does it require any process outside of a normal gun sale? Thanks to all that reply.

Not a problem. Many were sold or traded by the military, & there is no tracking of them. Just obey the usual federal, state, & local laws for transferring a handgun.

I have seen a few that have had those marks polished off. I think that the marks give the gun character while removing them ruins any real value. My opinion only, more of a spectator here, definitely NOT an expert. 0 -

My bill of sale from the DCM states the following:
"This document constitutes a bill of sale and is evidence of title from US govt. Lack of suficient evidence of transfer of title could result in confiscation of firearm under prov of RS USC 10-1317. Sale is recorded at US army weapons command, Rock Island, Illindis. In the event of loss or other disposition notify that agency Attn AMSWE-SMO-I."
Note: Price was $14.15 plus $2.85 shipping. I got stuck with the older 1911 model. serial # 276XXX.
I looked for a date & all I could find was , Date 5259, Req'd date 289, Document date 271. The form is dtd 1 Jan 64 so it had to be after that & before they stopped selling them. I know it was well before 1970.0 -

Hello Gruntled . It is true that the steel used in the 1911A1 was better then the 1911 especially the slide However if you have an all matching 1911 with correct original finish "not Parkerized" as well as original double diamond wood grips then your pistol is worth at least twice of what a 1911A1 will bring so dont [:(] on a 1911. 0
