Info on .410 please....
I'm searching (for my husband) for information and the value on a Scout .410
We know this is a old shotgun, it belonged to his great grandfather passed down to him. Any and all markings we can find on it is the name "Scout" and on the double barrels are the numbers 56288
After much searching I finally found, "SCOUT Tradename is used by J. Stevens Arms Company".
As you can see I really don't know much about it and would really appreciate any and all information you could give me.

Shotguns with the name SCOUT on them are what I refer to as a "Trade Brand Name" shotgun. That is a shotgun made by a major maker for and sold by a wholesaler or retailer who chose the name to go on the gun. Scout shotguns were made by one of three makers, Crescent Fire Arms Company of Norwich,CT (before 1932), Iver Johnson's Arms & Cycle Works and Stevens Arms & Tool Company (before 1940). They were made for and sold by the Frankfurt Hardware Company of Milwaukee,WI. The serial number sounds much like those used by Crescent Fire Arms. I'm sure would like to know value. Value of a "Trade Brand Name" shotgun depends on the condition, the amount of original finish left on the metal and wood and the mechanical condition. Values can range from a high as much as $200 for an example that appears to have come out of the factory yesterday afternoon to a low of $10 for a rusty rotten incomplete piece of junk fit only as a tent peg. 0 -
I would guess that it was made by Crescent Fire Arms, any old double 410 will bring $150+ at an estate auction. 0
