Essex/Colt 45 auto

I was just offered a 1911A1 Essex frame stamped 80 series with a Colt slide stamped 1911 A1. Like new with no box. What would the value of this be? Any ideas?

  total parts gun so no box..value as a shooter 300.00

  Not to split hairs, but it would more accurately be called an ESSEX (with a Colt USGI slide); it's a Mixed Parts Mongrel.
  
  Essex makes parts, not complete guns. They are sometimes good, sometimes bad. Folks who assemble them sometimes know what they are doing, sometimes not.
  
  I concur with fordsix, IF you can return it if it doesn't work, & work safely.

  Interesting if you meant to state what I read. A series 80 frame will have parts in them that prevent that frame from being used with a 1911A 1 slide.The firing pin block/lock . do you actually have a frame MARKED SERIES 80 [?] if so there will be a cutout on the top right hand side of the frame next to the disconnector hole and a series 80 slide will have a plunger. under the rear sight this lever pushes up on to free the firing pin to travel forward. I would sure like to see the marks on the frame and the slide. I have never seen a slide marked model 1911A1 .
