sticky magazine HS Duramatic

I have a High Standard Duramatic 101 my father just gave me. Even after a thorough cleaning the magazine wants to stick. I can't see anything wrong; the mag release depresses fully as it should; with the gun disassembled the mag moves freely in the grip housing; it appears to be the original factory mag; I'm stumped as to why this should be. Is it a common issue?

    If it moves freely, without sticking when disassembled. My WAG is the upper part of the mag. around the feed lip area is interacting with the breach of the slide. Using a black sharpie pen cover this area with ink. Insert mag into pistol a number of times. The bright area(s) where the ink is rubbed off will show the contact points(s).

    As H S pistols don't have a integral feed ramp it's quite common to run across original magazines that have been "worked on". Recently at a flea market I ran across one that had a piece of metal soldered on the front in a misguided effort to "correct" the problem.

    If sometime in the distant past, (Duramatics were last made in the early 70's), somebody did some tweaking on the mag. lips, this might be the root cause of your problem.

    I could not get the shells to load correctly and when loaded it would not feed.

    If all else fails get a Triple K mag. Their recent production mags made in the U.S. are much better quality, then the old Mexican made ones. As long as you use plated solids, ( CCI MIni-Mags are the best ), feeding and function shouldn't be a problem, as long as there is nothing else wrong with the pistol.

    By the time you count shipping, those Triple K mags cost more than twice as much as Dad paid for the gun! [:0]

    Is the problem magazine one of the cadmium plated magazines?

    look on the side of your mag. there are different size feed buttons used to depress the spring on the mag. if you have the wrong mag with a big button, it will stick. try changing mags with different button sizes. email me and i'll send you to a place where you can see pics of this problem.
