Behlert 45 with Seecamp conversion

I bought this double action chopped 45 about 20 years ago and also got a copy of Colt Handgunning dated 1978 with with a picture of a similar 45 on the cover.Picture looks like cover gun is S A where mine is Seecamp conversion.
Left side of slide is engraved with (Customised By Behlert Cranford N.J.)
I shot it a few times with no problems at all then brought it home ,cleaned it and greased it up with Rig and put it gun safe.
My question is,does this gun have value as a collector or as a shooter.I do know that the conversion was alot (something like a grand) back in 78 and you furnish the pistol for the conversion.
Thanks for any input from you guys.

  Hard to give you a specific answer. Behlert was quite a noted gunsmith back in the 80's. The Seecamp was probably the first successful adaptation of the Colt 1911 platform to double action.
  
  Whoever had the work done on the pistol back then, had a lot of money. As Behlert didn't to the Seecamp double action conversion. Don't know what you have in it? Your going th have to locate the proverbial right person to get big bucks out of it. The problem is most of the younger folks nowadays wouldn't know Behlert and Seecamp from a pimple on their butts.

  Rufe Snow has given you correct information Very few people under 50 will know anything about Austin Behlert. He was one of the first to CHOP semi auto pistols if not THE FIRST did work on model 39 S&W as well as 1911 type pistols. IMHO his best Idea was on 1911 Type hammers and sears he made and had made for him 1911 hammers that had the full cock notch cut like a High Standard it was a slot not just a very small hammer hooks . You can adjust the engagement so it does not drag on the half cock notch with the over-travel set very tight. BTW I think Cabela's has either one or two of his guns for sale in their gun Library
