what would be best lower to purchase? I have M-4 upper col, stock. I have been looking at rock river,S&W, a lot of other Mfg. for resale which would bring a better price. Thanks

    It really doesn't matter. When you go to sell it, it will be a Mixed Parts Mongrel put together by someone attempting his first build.

    Don't expect to make money on it.

    I like RRA and Spikes Tactical,though there are many other quality manufacturers out there. Many of the lowers are actually machined by the same folks with badging to represent the resellers.

    Building (better termed assembling) an AR type lower receiver is basic. Beauty of the design. Watch someone do it once on youtube, or sumsuch, and Bingo!

    Rely on other posters for their opinions on what product (by brand name) to buy. Best, Joe

    I've built quite a few and think it makes no difference other than the type of finish you prefer. Some brands use a teflon type finish, looks nice until it's scratched and then it stays scratched. The matte type of finish on lowers like Stag does on the other touch up much better, is durable and once you oil it up a bit takes on a pretty decent, low sheen.

    The best answer could depend upon the particular location for ya .....

    For example: If set-up in Kalif & ya wish to keep her, make sure to use an OLL.

    I would not "build" one. For the cost right now I wculdn't see the justification. If you break a piece off, which can happen, you will be really pissed. At least I would. Buy a complete Stag lower and any upper you like. In my area the prices are starting to easy off a little. Then later you can consider trigger changes etc. if you want.

    Now is not a good time to build for resale. There are a load of 'assembled' AR type rifles floating around. From what I've seen, there are a lot of poorly built rifles floating about as well.
    If I were in your shoes, I'd be using a RRA, Stag, or Bushmaster to build it, but I would not sale it in the near future.

    The level if incompetence out there is astounding when it comes to assembled rifles. People are forgetting to put the gas tube pin in, torque the barrel, putting the wrong springs in, screwing up the tolerances on the receiver holes, and a host of other things.

    I ran across one today that had the receiver holes welded and re-drilled. No idea why, stated my opinion of the idea then walked away.

    In short, the people out their doing these kind of things are going to kill the price of AR's. (already have in some areas)

    As with any firearm, time will raise the price. But your probably looking at about 1 year out before they go back up again, and when they do, people will be very wary of them, so make sure your build is right and looks good.
