remington 742

I was wondering if any one had any pics of the damage cause by the bolt in the reciever of the 742. As a reference of what to look for.

    backed out primers are USUALY caused by A. excessive headspace OR B. low pressure (I'll assume factory ammo). The 742 isn't one of Remington's better ideas and they no longer service them. Parts are scarce (out side of parted out junkers). What cal. is your rifle?

    Since the gun hasn't been fired a lot it is possible that the barrel is loose causing excessive headspace, backing out the primers. Take the forearm off, lock the bolt open. Then see if you can get any movement fore and aft from the barrel. Or it is possible it was never fitted properly when assembled new. Remington will not work on a 742 now.

    41nut, that won't work. The 742 bolt head locks into a barrel extention like a AR.
    If it has too much head space, it would need a new bolt or barrel.
    My suggestion right now is to try some different ammo and see if the same problem is there.
