wolf .308 ammo
Got a question. I have a saiga .308 and am looking to buy some bulk ammo. Thinking about the wolf .308 but have heard both good and bad reviews. I figured since the saiga shoots on a ak platform it should be ok. Or should I spend a little bit more and buy some good stuff.

The way things have been for the last 6/8 months regarding the availability of ammo, buy anything, and as much as you can get your hands on.
Don't be making a silk purse out of a sow's ear. It's not a Blazer, the Saiga will eat anything you will feed it.0 -
My way of thinking is that Saiga = AK = loves steel case ammo.
I say go for the Wolf ammo.
In general, I can see only two reasons to spend more money on better ammo.
a. If you want better accuracy. Realistically, if pinpoint accuracy was what you were after, you wouldn't have bought a Saiga to begin with.
b. If you want to reload the cases, you'll want boxer primed brass (not steel case).
Edit: In terms of good and bad reviews, steel case ammo tends to be NOT so great for AR-type guns or guns with tight match type chambers, where you might get extraction issues. But all the SKS and AK-type guns I've ever seen seem to run 100% on it. As above, I'd imagine your Saiga will run fine on it.
In terms of the ammo quality itself, Wolf certainly isn't the best out there in terms of accuracy. On the other hand, its not terrible in terms of accuracy, its pretty reliable, and I think the low cost makes up for it.
One thing you might consider is simply to buy a box or two to try out, before you commit to an entire case. That way if it isn't up to your standard in your gun, you won't be stuck with an expensive case of it.0 -

AK platform is not known for accuracy. Partially due to the loose tolorances. It is those same tolorances that will allow it to shoot the wolf. However; it is my opinion that the polymer coating is crap. Even in an AK, when it heats up it can be a problem and stick a case.
The old school copper washed rounds are a better fit, and more along the lines of what was intended for the platform. There are some zinc washed versions, but I wouldn't touch them for health reasons.
Find some of the chinese L1A1 ammo, or some of the early russian copper washed for service rounds, use the wolf when you don't have to worry about needing the rifle.0 -

I shoot an HK-91 and I would worry the steel cases hitting the ejection port or ejection port buffer would eventually lead to damage after awhile. 0 -

Well, to be clear here, the steel used in Wolf cases is a fairly mild/soft alloy. It should be significantly softer than the steel in your gun's receiver, barrel, or other hardened parts.
I think the usual part that receives increased wear from steel cases is the guns' extractor. Its not so much that the steel cases themselves wear out the extractor, but rather that the cases are "stickier" in the chambers, requiring more work for extraction.
The increased "stickiness" is often blamed on the lacquer of lacquered cases, but I think that's only a small part of it. Part of the problem is that the steel cases aren't as "springy" as brass ones, and they don't snap back to shape quite as well after shooting.
There have been problems described of poor seal of steel case necks in chambers, leading to fouling of the front of the chambers, again, possibly increasing "stickiness".0
