Colt 38 DA

I've got my Grandpa's 38. It's nickel plated. I've looked it up and it says some were nickel. My problem is the trigger, hammer, cylinder release and colt emblem on the grips are gold plated.     I HAVE A COLT 38 DA PISTOL SERIAL #155065 THAT IS IN PRETTY GOOD CONDITION. IT DOES HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE FIRING MECHANISM BUT I BELIEVE THAT IT CAN BE REPAIRED. CAN YOU GIVE ME AN IDEA WHEN IT WAS MADE AND APROX. VALUE?

    As a gun that belonged to your Grandpa it is priceless. On the market it is not going to be very valuable. Looks pretty well worn and the nickel is probably a refinish job as well as the gold tone on the hammer, trigger, and cylinder release. Probably worth in the $200 range if you sell it. Better to keep it as a family heirloom and a way to remember your Grandpa.

    Be carefull to shoot mild loads in this old Colt. Nothing hotter than than mild target loads.

    Howdy Sam,

    Well Gramps had some taste now didn't he? Your old Colt is actually a rare variation. Notice the lower front of the frame where the crane meets. These specimans were briefly produced after the old sort of wonky bottomed frames were phased out and the modern frames you see throughout the 20th century became standard. Neat old Colt with rare features.
