1886 winchester takedown

Hello everyone,
I hope someone can help me. I have recently become owner of n 1886 winchester takedown, it is .45-70 caliber. I had someone look at it and clean it and it is all original and in great condition except 2" of the stock were cut and replaced with a rubber guard of some sort.
I would like to make this gun original and comlete. Is there anywhere where I can buy an original stock for this gun? I have found the repro ones, but I wanted an authentic 1886 one. Thanks for any help.

    Welcome to the foruns here on Gunbroker.

    We would love to see some close up, and clear pictures of your rifle. Also information like the serial number with the last 2 digits "xx"ed out would be really helpful. We have some real dyed in wool Winchester experts here on this board who can tell you to the month when it was made practically, and what type of finished stock to look for. The pictures are so we can grade it for a fair evaluation, and tell you exactly what you have. I am sure Bert H will be along to advise you...he is one of the very best!

    Hello Lisa,

    Finding an original stock is a challenging task. The first thing we need to determine is what vintage (date of manufacture), and the specific variation rifle you have. Winchester offered at least three variants of Take Downs rifles in 45-70 (a standard Sporting Rifle, a Special Sporting Rifle (Deluxe), and the Extra Lightweight Rifle). Please measure the length of the butt stock from the trigger to the end of the wood.
